Industrial Corrosion is a common occurrence and a widely used term; however, very few from even the engineering field have a clear understanding of the science behind it. Consequently, the possibility of corrosion related failures being given reduced importance or altogether ignored during FEED and other phases of a key project design arises. This course on Corrosion Management is designed to introduce the basics, discuss how and why it occurs, and highlight the areas and conditions under which it is most likely to occur. On completion of the course, participants will gain a full understanding of the importance of corrosion management and the key role it plays in asset integrity management. Therefore, this course is strongly recommended for aspiring individuals from science and engineering background at all levels, regardless of whether they are students or employed in the industry already.
Lesson-1: Definitions & Basics of Corrosion
Lesson-2: Corrosion Key Environment Variables – Part: I
Lesson-3: Corrosion Key Environment Variables – Part: II
Lesson-4: Classification, Quantification & Measurements of Corrosion
Lesson-5: Types and Forms of Corrosion
This course on Industrial Corrosion Management has five video lessons crafted and delivered by an accomplished metallurgical engineer who is a corrosion technologist himself and also AMPP certified instructor with decades of hands-on experience across sectors viz., petrochemicals, fertilizers, refinery, and oil & gas. The course is structured to aid attendees grasp the subject of Corrosion Engineering & Management and give them a fuller understanding of the science. Besides, this being a video course that is divided under five short-duration lessons, participants can go over the lessons any number of times until they have achieved their purpose. Moreover, they will have the privilege to interact with the course director, by reaching out to Maven Academy, to gain further insights and could be offered concessional pricing for the advanced course that is about to be released shortly.
Lesson 1: Deals with definition of Corrosion, why it occurs, the forms in which it occurs. Briefly the corrosion cost is explained so that the importance of corrosion will be known to the attendees.
Lesson 2: Key Environment Variables, Part 1: To maintain continuity this part of the lesson relates to the Environment effects. Part 1 primarily deals with environments with dissolved gases like oxygen and acid gases and their corrosive effects on materials.
Lesson 3 - Key Environment Variables, Part 2: Deals with factors such as chlorides, pH in the environment that cause corrosion in the materials.
Lesson 4 – This module covers corrosion quantification, corrosion measurements in the real world, and tools used for measuring corrosion.
Lesson 5: The attendee will learn how to identify the corrosion that occurs in different forms and types. The review part of this lesson reminds the reader of three important points i.e., “effect of each of the parameter, in industrial process fluids parameters co-exist, and Combined effect is complex to understand.” Finally, the course ends with a summary of five notable features of this course.
